For wealth management publication STEP Journal, Falcon Fine Art’s Commercial Director Guy Vaissière writes that the demand for art-backed finance is growing globally.
The globalisation of the art market and a growing number of new collectors, are the main reasons the art-secured lending market is certain to expand, Vaissière explains. Asia, in particular, is now home to 40 families that hold a collective US$8-US$12 billion of artwork, with the majority of these investments having been made in the past 10 years and with an increasing percentage financed.
Certainly, as collectors continue to become comfortable with monetising their art, we can see art financing becoming an increasingly mainstream – if always a specialist – area of financing.
