During a recent UKTI roadshow – aimed at encouraging an increase in exports to Latin America – Santander’s Latin America Desk Head, Mauricio Munguia, spoke to UKTI Country Officer for Argentina, Tim Hanson, about prospects in Argentina – as reported in Global Banking & Finance Review.
More specifically, the discussion touched upon the new government, formed by pro-trade President Mauricio Macri, and its potential for economic reform. Also highlighted were the most promising sectors for UK firms – energy, infrastructure and education to name a few – as well as advice on how to navigate the technical barriers to trade, particularly with respect to Argentina’s complex tendering rules.
Ultimately, both agreed that, in conjunction with a general opening up of the Argentinian economy, we can expect progress in the bi-lateral relationship between the two countries to result in a greater interest in UK products and services from Argentina.
