S&P looks at green investment in the specialist sustainability press

Mike Wilkins_headshotIn an article for specialist sustainability publication, Blue & Green Tomorrow, Michael Wilkins, Managing Director of Infrastructure Finance and Head of Environmental Finance Research at Standard & Poor’s, explains that the Paris Agreement, which emerged from the United Nations’ COP21 conference in December, marks a milestone in the fight against climate change.

The agreement sets out global CO2 emission reduction targets and commits countries around the world to helping keep global temperature rises below 2 degrees centigrade. Wilkins argues that if such pledges are to be upheld, considerable financing will be required – the vast majority of which is expected to come from the private sector. He says that while divestment in fossil fuel-based sectors will grow, government initiatives will increasingly support a transition to clean energy and energy efficient technology.
